SafeBreach Vice President of Security Research Tomer Bar Chosen as New Black Hat Europe Review Board Member

Bar’s selection highlights his depth of expertise, impressive research contributions, and highly respected reputation within the cybersecurity community

SUNNYVALE, Calif.—July 25, 2024 SafeBreach, the pioneer in breach and attack simulation (BAS), today announced that Tomer Bar, Vice President of Security Research for SafeBreach Labs, was selected to join the Black Hat Europe review board. In this new role, Bar will join an exclusive group of industry experts and thought leaders responsible for assessing innovative research submissions, selecting conference programming, and advising the general strategic direction of Black Hat Europe.

Black Hat is an internationally recognized cybersecurity event series that brings together security professionals and underground hackers to uncover groundbreaking new vulnerabilities and security tools. Black Hat events are held annually throughout the world, including the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Asia. Black Hat Europe 2024 is set for December 9-12 in London, with the call for papers closing on August 5.

“I have immense respect for the entire Black Hat organization and am honored to be joining the prestigious ranks of the Black Hat Europe review board in an official capacity,” said Bar. “It is a unique privilege to serve alongside other subject matter experts and thought leaders in reviewing some of the most innovative cybersecurity research in the world. I can’t wait to get started and am looking forward to the conference in December.”

Bar brings over 20 years of cybersecurity research experience to this position, including work in the areas of advanced persistent threat (APT) groups, vulnerabilities, reverse engineering, and forensics. As a hands-on security researcher and head of the SafeBreach Labs team, Bar has discovered multiple vulnerabilities in the Windows operating system, including the notable PrintDemon vulnerabilities in the Windows Spooler mechanism. His contributions have earned him recognition as one of Microsoft’s 2023 Most Valuable Security Researchers and a nomination for Best Privilege Escalation Vulnerability at the 2021 Pwnie Awards. Tomer holds a Master’s degree from Bar Ilan University, and his work has been featured in major publications like the Washington Post, Newsweek, BBC, and Wired. He is a frequent public speaker, presenting his research at events worldwide, including DEF CON (28-31), Black Hat USA, Black Hat Asia, ReCon, Sector, CONFidence, Security Fest, HackCon, and more.

“Tomer’s addition to the Black Hat Europe review board highlights the tremendous level of his expertise and his reputation as a world-class researcher,” said Itzik Kotler, CTO at SafeBreach. “Not only has he made significant contributions to the cybersecurity community as a whole, but also to the SafeBreach organization and its customers, who are able to leverage research from the entire SafeBreach Labs team within the SafeBreach platform to understand their level of vulnerability to novel attacks. We are proud to have Tomer leading the SafeBreach Labs team and congratulate him on this latest accolade.”

This announcement comes on the heels of SafeBreach’s 10-year anniversary, which the company celebrated earlier this year. Since its founding in 2014, the company has helped organizations take a more proactive approach to security by building a powerful BAS platform that is utilized by some of the largest financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, and transportation organizations in the world. Over the last decade, SafeBreach has also built a world-renowned team of security experts that includes Bar and the SafeBreach Labs team. Together, they have an impressive track record, having qualified to speak at every Black Hat USA and DEFCON USA event in the past five years, boasting fifteen talks between them. They have also made five appearances at Black Hat Europe and Black Hat Asia.
